Paule, Brittany, France

June-July 2026

We decided to return to Brittany, having visited the South-East of Brittany a few years earlier. We booked a beautiful gite in Paule, in the middle of the Brest peninsula. En route, we stopped for one night with our friends Tim & Laura in Normandy and then travelled onto Paule. Here are some photos of our trip:

What looks like a very old stone chair in the garden The raised pool is to the left of the gite and patio area We enjoyed the pool!

We visited the lovely town of Pont-Aven and had lunch at Le Moulin du Grand Poulguin, an old water mill The restaurant is situated on the River Aven... ...with a small weir alongside

The machinery running the water mill is still visible inside the restaurant Brittany is famous for galettes, made from buckwheat flour Across the road there is a very small brick-built toilet actually standing in the river!

En route to Pointe de Pen-Hir it was a little misty! Even horses use zebra crossings in France! We stopped for a coffee at a beach-side cafe in Pointe de Pen-Hir

Along this area of the coastline, you can see many WW2 fortifications Sadly, a lot of the fortifications are covered in graffiti

We did a boat trip from Benodet to Quimper and return on the River Odet
